I've been to St. Isaac's Sobor!   Just last spring!  Very interesting architecture and a cathedral of immense proportions.  Alexei provides his "view" of the cathedral    in this Izvestia article -

RE:Alexei's opinion about St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg

Lovely find Kareena...I was beginning to think he'd gone into hiding.  It's been over a week since any new Alexeism's in the press.

I think he likes that cathedralLaughing

Olympic champion, figure skater Aleksei Yagudin:
"in Peter is many cathedrals, but Isaac's for me - number one!" - I very rad so that The isaakiyevskiy cathedral, the construction of my city, pretend to title of one of seven miracles of Russia. This is very pleasant. I remember, as with the mom in the childhood we came into St Isaac'a cathedral. 4 then it looked at the mock-ups, which demonstrate the building of cathedral, and was surprised: as people we could build this enormous construction?! How I remember, in present Isaakiya the complex history of building, the cathedral several times reconstructed.

Generally St Isaac's cathedral - this is the most  attended  place by me in Saint Petersburg. In the second place - Peterhof. I love to be taken away on the spiral staircase to the running plate of cathedral and from there to look at my city. Peter is especially good from the running plate Of the cathedral! These roofs of houses under you... Here it is possible to feel the unique St. Petersburg atmosphere. True, to get down downward from the running plate personally for me even is more complex than to rise, head begins to turn. In our Pieter is many cathedrals, but Isaakiy for me - number one!
..........................

Going down may make even super-fit Alexei's head spin...LOL. Me, I'd need a piggy-back ride up if not down as well!

I do love his descriptions of St Petersburg...he has such pride (and rightly so, its beautiful) in his home city.  He'd make a great tour guide.  Mind you, I may only end up paying attention to the wonderful site in front of me (sun glinting off the golden hair, soothing voice, sensuous mouth and a few other choice bits), completely missing the catherdrals, Hermitage, Winter Palace etc etc!!!  Still, I'd come home happy and wanting to go back.
