To be honest, Sharon, I get the feeling that Alexei can't bear to disappoint his fans. He knows that a lot of them wait all year to see him skate, live. I'm afraid that he may have trouble thinking about the long-term effects on his body, when he sees that excited, expectant audience welcoming him with so much enthusiasm. You know how parents may spend too much, to see their kids' eyes light up on Christmas morning? I think Alexei spends too much of himself on making his audiences' eyes light up, especially in these towns spread out over the vastness that is Russia. After reading some of the wonderfully affectionate posts by members of those audiences, I can sort of imagine myself in his shoes (skating boots), wanting so much to give them everything I can.
I'm worried, too, about the stitches.....
I do believe that Ilya kept him from jumping as long as he could.

and I'm not usually a person prone to violence. Then again, Alexei may have just decided he felt good and done it! But, I'll shout and rant at Ilya because Alexei is just too sweet, gorgeous and he'd put the 'puppy dog eyes' on and I'd have to forgive him!
