Topic:  BBC documentary Russia: a Journey with Jonathan Dimbleby

I'ver just opened my TV listing guide to find the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) are starting a 5 piece documentary (each episode an hour long) with a renowned (in Britain anyway) presenter called Jonathan Dimbleby.  He will be travelling across Russia, talking to people about the changes that have taken place and life in Russia.

2 excepts from the review in the listing guide say he meets a group of jolly babushka who hug him for longer than necessary and tell him, with a glint in their eyes, that he is a very handsome man, then proceed to flirt with him outrageously!  So flirting and and a love of hugs are a Russian trait not just an Alexei trait!!! Kiss

2nd bit talks about him meeting a young man in a squallid communal kitchen of an apartment block.  The reviewer notes "So no one washes up much in the new Russia it seems".  Actually reviewer, I think its a young man thing that, not a Russian thing!.Tongue out

He travels from Murmansk, to St Petersburg, through Moscow to Belsen then across the 'bottom' of the country to Tomsk, Chita, finishing in Valdivostok.  So, one of those 'epics' the BBC does so well.  It  took 18 months to complete.

Mind you, I thought I was going to miss it.  I had to be 'rescued' from a rather large spider on the stairs by my neighbour!!  What a wimp (me not her)

Not surprisingly there is a book and a DVD (region 2) to accompany the series called:
Russia: a Journey to the Heart of a Land and its People, authored by Jonathan.

for details visit www.bbcshop.com

It's will be available for shipping outside GB to Europe and other countries.  It isn't on the American or Canadian BBCshop sites yet but may be available through other retailers when released mid-June

I'm really looking forward to it.

This is from a free translation thing,it's alright but it doesn't translate some words

HOW THE LIFE?
- All know, what Alexey Jagudin does not suffer star fever but that it so thirsted dialogue with journalists?!

Not so. Not with journalists, and with people. All is interesting to me! I only to live the beginnings! I considered one time, that the world of figure skating is huge, but after transition in professional sports has understood, that this small ????? is insignificant, in comparison that occurs to that around. It is interesting to me to get acquainted with people who have no attitude to figure skating, it is interesting to me to know, as well as than they live ...
I knowingly endowed the childhood and a youth, but now I enjoy a life. And if I have not gone to sports, can, would live in old ?????????? in which I till now am registered, and would work as the loader. Now I have a worthy work which I love, and it is a lot of opportunities to make up for lost time.
- In what sense?
In general it is interesting to me, that occurs in Petersburg which I anew learn. All is interesting to me - from trifles up to great: and as it is built up, both as is cleaned, and as people in streets and of what they think look, than live. Many impressions. It helps not only to relax, but also to develop.
I like to walk on city on foot. I adore, for example, ???????????? the lock, in general the center ... Petrograd area. ????????????????? - one of my most favourite prospectuses and, certainly, the Sink, Fontanka

Somehow descended on "Peter", was ill for "Zenith" ... And as a whole, all sports are interesting to me, I always look sports news. To me like both hockey, and football, both tennis, and basketball. Earlier we very often played football in ????????. We had a special form, and I even have bought a gate. I love the big tennis. I love baths. They help to keep on ?????. I adore the nature. With shish kebabs to gulf of Finland it is good to go ...

On clubs go?
Recently was in « the Flying Dutch », in «Zima????» first time descended. I love places where it is possible to sit and talk easy that music did not rattle and there was no madness. To me, I repeat, it is interesting to communicate, therefore I choose places where it is pleasant to do it. When I from here have left for 18 years, I practically in this city knew nobody, and now at me have appeared a lot of familiar which have no attitude to figure skating ... On the sly I get acquainted, I acquire communications.

You have friends ????????????

*He said Anton was his friend, again not sure why it didn't copy*

What kitchen love?
- Any. I the man of moods. Here before an our meeting called in home to parents, and there - a russian cabbage soup, a potato, a herring. I eat all. Mum even takes offence, when at a question what to prepare ????????????, I answer, that to me all the same. At me in general in this plan of problems any. The main thing - since morning to not awake, and all. At me day after two begins.
And how constant trainings?!
- Well and what now trainings?! I already in other mode live ...

- And earlier as?
- It was necessary to rise early earlier. In America trained from 7.00 till, therefore always was malicious since morning. Now kind when I shall sleep.

Americans are famous for the democratic character in clothes. To you is not evident, what Russian are more exacting to appearance?
- Yes, in Moscow or Petersburg simply in shorts and a T-short in the center you will no

I'm gutted about Liverpool -  the own goal proved vital..now that's gotta hurtYell

Rafa remains King of Clay.

I was pleased to see Safina win.  I didn't see the Henin match but the back-up win she then had against Serena Williams was good.  I hope its the start of a push up the rankings for her.  She has the same temper as her brother at times so  not sure she'll aways be able to hold it together but it makes for great, if flustrating, entertainment.

Hi,
can't remember if I've posted this before but I recently purchased a Russian magazine from Ebay which has an interview with Alexei and very nice pictures.

Came across the magazine site today and managed to get the link for the interview so people can translate it.  Here is the link and the photo's.

Re:  Interview in (Russian) Cosmopolitan June 2008

Lina,
yes, its a pity we now associate the 'healthy look' with a suntan.  Like Alexei I too have very fair skin.  Fortunately, I am too impatient to bother sunbathing so tend to use fake tan.  I can't see Alexei using this even though he would have a long line of women volunteering to rub it all over!!

Mind, you I have to agree with Andreaj that if I had to choose between say, the Alexei photo from this site or the one in Cosmo I'd have to say I prefer the site (tanned) photo...mind you the muscle shirt might have something to do with my choice also! (OK I'm shallow when it comes to Alexei oggling, I can't help it).

I hope Alexei manages to get some 'me-time' over the summer now that the tour is nearing its end.

Re:  Interview in (Russian) Cosmopolitan June 2008

Thankyou Dodhiyel for reminding me of that point:), what I meant was..he needs to get outside I should've clarified myself...you can tell he's been indoors alot and I think it would benefit him to take a holiday next time he has time off  and spend it all in the great outdoors breathing in some fresh air, whether that's in the mountains or by the ocean. I hope he gets a chance to rest soon.

Re:  Interview in (Russian) Cosmopolitan June 2008

Thanks a bunch, sharon!

I like the photo because it's Aleksey, just being, not trying to entertain.  He looks as if he's thinking; his eyes have a deep expression.

Actually, I prefer that he not overexpose his skin to the sun, as it can lead to major health problems later on, especially for one with as fair a complexion as his.    Although he  has the ability to  tan deeply,  which we have seen in other photos, his natural untanned skin tone  was actually  extremely fair when he was about 18 or 19, and probably still is quite fair.  I  realize it is always  tempting to sun-bathe, but  even sun-worshippers  with olive-toned skin  have to be careful not to overdo it.  I long ago lost all belief in the expression "a healthy tan".  Tanning is the furthest thing from healthy.

There is an interview with Alexei in June 2008 edition of (Russian) Cosmopolitan. Nice little picture and except:

user posted image

Alexei Yagudin about Sasha savel'evoy, real estate and their future on the television however is strange, Olympic champion, repeated champion of peace and favorite of public gives interview not frequently. But specially for Cosmo Aleksey agreed to describe about his life, love, real estate, his own book and plans for the future.

COSMO: You from four years in the sport, did not tire? Really it did not be desirable in the childhood to run a little with the boys on the puddles?
ALEKSEY: Certainly, it was desirable to take and to throw. But I tried not to walk to trainings of day two, and then again it returned to the roller. It goes without saying, time did not be sufficient not in order to play a little with the children, to take a trip for the city. And when all made domestic task, I was trained. But such that to entirely throw and more not to return to the sport, not it was.

COSMO: Sport does aggravate a feeling of tendency toward the victory, it does interfere this in the daily life?
ALEKSEY: Sport in no way can prevent man. Glory to god, that there was the sport, and glory to god, that the discussion dealt only with conquering. In the life this very strongly helps me.

COSMO: You have a method how to overcome nervousness before the output to ice?
ALEKSEY: I understood that with nervous tension to fight uselessly. Even now, when I leave to the simple appearances, nevertheless I be nervous. Agitation, probably never will leave. But so that it it would be less, necessary more to believe in itself. But this confidence is created only by work. 4 this felt into the last Olympic season. When on the training you carry out 60%, then on the competitions, of course, you be nervous. But then we were trained so that was led ispolnyaemost' of the most complex elements to 90-100%, and to come out was much more simply.

......................................
I bet the interview will be facinating as always.  I'll be scanning Ebay again for the mag!

Re:  Alexei's opinion about St. Isaac's Cathedral in St. Petersburg

Lovely find Kareena...I was beginning to think he'd gone into hiding.  It's been over a week since any new Alexeism's in the press.

I think he likes that cathedralLaughing
...................................

Olympic champion, figure skater Aleksei Yagudin:
"in Peter is many cathedrals, but Isaac's for me - number one!" - I very rad so that The isaakiyevskiy cathedral, the construction of my city, pretend to title of one of seven miracles of Russia. This is very pleasant. I remember, as with the mom in the childhood we came into St Isaac'a cathedral. 4 then it looked at the mock-ups, which demonstrate the building of cathedral, and was surprised: as people we could build this enormous construction?! How I remember, in present Isaakiya the complex history of building, the cathedral several times reconstructed.

Generally St Isaac's cathedral - this is the most  attended  place by me in Saint Petersburg. In the second place - Peterhof. I love to be taken away on the spiral staircase to the running plate of cathedral and from there to look at my city. Peter is especially good from the running plate Of the cathedral! These roofs of houses under you... Here it is possible to feel the unique St. Petersburg atmosphere. True, to get down downward from the running plate personally for me even is more complex than to rise, head begins to turn. In our Pieter is many cathedrals, but Isaakiy for me - number one!
..........................

Going down may make even super-fit Alexei's head spin...LOL. Me, I'd need a piggy-back ride up if not down as well!

I do love his descriptions of St Petersburg...he has such pride (and rightly so, its beautiful) in his home city.  He'd make a great tour guide.  Mind you, I may only end up paying attention to the wonderful site in front of me (sun glinting off the golden hair, soothing voice, sensuous mouth and a few other choice bits), completely missing the catherdrals, Hermitage, Winter Palace etc etc!!!  Still, I'd come home happy and wanting to go back.
