Thank goodness for small mercies!  At least he isn't even going to attempt to put his body through the intensity and strain doing a competition routine would put on it.

I'm sure he is disappointed because he doesn't like letting fans or organisers down but this is a wise decision.

Yes, I agree.  It's good that he's finally being a bit careful, and I'm glad to see it.  Thank you for the information, Karenna.  :)

Thank you, Karenna.  :)

I believe he is doing a wise thing.  I have also been happy to read in AYDG translations from the Ice Symphony forum, that he has been performing without subjecting his body to jumps prematurely.  The reviewing posters have expressed a lot of appreciation for his performances.  One said, for example, that the program was still beautiful, because of "his complete smoothness, sincerity, and artistic taste".  I loved reading that!

That is the page with Tomsk reviews, but there are subsequent reviews from other cities, that are equally enthusiastic.  I love it that his Russian fans are so appreciative of him, and of his talent!  Also, I am hoping that will  motivate him to continue to be patient with his body, and give it a chance to heal all the way.

Lina :)

Thanks Lina!  Without a doubt Laurie at AYDG does a great job!

Also, another superb information detective - Ilona at GOTI who found another review article from Tomsk tv -

"....thus far the artists skated their programs when into the range of our cameras arrived a person who looked very much like Alexei Yagudin. It was hard to believe that this was indeed the Olympic Champion himself before our very eyes.  A week ago, Alexei underwent an operation in which his appendix was removed and therefore to appear at this show it seemed unlikely that he would be able to do so.  In spite of this, the arrival of Yagudin became the main surprise of the show.  For Alexei they specially changed his program.  He "danced" and  each specator's heart "died" a little when we caught  a glimpse of his white bandages underneath his concert shirt ."

That was so well put by the writer  -"each spectator's heart died a little".  I watched Alexei's performance of a segment of Winter and his speech afterwards in Krasnodar (AY Ching's  great video clip)  and I felt my heart die a little because he must have been in such pain just before he was taken to the hospital.  I cannot fathom how he could perform when he felt this way.  I've decided that a box of tissues beside my computer has become a necessary accessory - I can't get through some videos of Alexei  without tears!
