Before Alexei attended the "Muza -TV 2008 Awards" he discovered that his Porsche Cayenne was missing from the parking area of his apartment in Moscow!  Inside the stolen vehicle Alexei had placed one of his World Champion gold medals for a photo shoot in relation to a media article.

I'm so darn angry about this!! I'm being polite, I think, but car thieves are svenyi (pigs!)

WOW!!! What brazen b*stards! I cannot imagine what a terrific shock it must have been for Alexei to walk out of his apartment to find his car gone.Yell  Unfortunately things such as this are the price of fame. Frown  I wonder if the thieves already had a plan of what to do with the car before they stole it? It would have been pretty naive to think they could sell it, on the blackmarket or whatever, and nobody would be the wiser. I mean, this is Alexei Yagudin's car, and the news of the theft of a national hero's car is a big thing. I, also, wonder if this theft was done by professional theives since there is a sizeable mafia-like presence in Russia; they could easily fence a car like that. It would easily disappear into someone's private automobile collection. I do hope the police will step up to the task of finding the vehicle and returning it to Alexei.

I am really sorry to hear his car has been stolen.I'm not even going to speculate about what could've become of it,I just hope that maybe,a miracle will occur and he gets his medal back atleast.Whether it is likely or not,it is still a hope. And I am glad he wasn't in the car when someone decided to take it,he could've been badly hurt.Poor Alexei. :(

I am so terribly sorry that this has happened to him.  Thank goodness they did not get his Olympic medal!  Words fail me.

They are valuing the loss at $1.5M (due to the theft of the World Championship Gold medal).  From paprazzi.ru, a picture of Alexei with police  after the car disappeared  (found by Ola on Gladiator of the Ice).

Poor Alexei.  No one dererves this but after all he's been though this last 12 months.  Does he have a sign on him saying 'Kick me please'?

I read in one of the articles that police confirmed there is a real problem of high end cars being stolen to order.  Another celeb had her car taken a while ago but the TV publicity helped get it back.  I had noticed in the piece about him staying at Sasha'a appartment a while ago that he had parked in at the side of the road.  Perhaps there is not much in the way of secure parking available in Moscow.

The medal might be returned but more likely ditched.  I'm glad he didn't catch them in the act though.  Things could have gotten nasty.

I've seen some pictures of him at the Muz-TV awards, with Tatiana Navka and her daughter ( a gorgeous poppet) and he managed a smile.  Good on him.

They are on another fansite:

Alexei's gold medal would not bring in much money because of the small amount  precious metal in it. The gold is a very thin veneer over brass (I believe); it is not solid gold by any means. The only worth to it is represented in when it was won and by whom. He stands a better chance of recovering it than he does his car.

Unfortunately this theft sounds like something accomplished by organized crime which is rampant in Russia. The stolen car would be procured (for an obscene  amount of money) for some filthy rich, shady private collector who wanted to add it to his personal prized toys.

All that being the case, I  think $1.5 Millon is a bit steep for the total amount lost unless the price of the car is way higher in Russia than in the US. Here, that model retails between $43,000 and $97,000 depending on the options, like if he got the biggest engine--turbo with the  4.8L V8. Also, and dependant  on how much the gold veneer weighs on the medal, I can't see it making up the difference, lol, unless they've affixed a dollar amount to the esthetic value of the medal. I dunno....something about that figure doesn't seem quite right, LOL.

I read somewhere where a fan said it was 1.5 million rubles  which they said was 26 rubles to 1 US dollar.which would turn out to be 63,696.97 USD.( I used a currency converter to figure out amount)

.....Alexei's Porsche Cayenne looks to be the Turbo version of the SUV.  It retails for $115K and even pre-owned this vehicle commands a hefty resale price.  I just found a news  video where Alexei estimates the total  loss (vehicle and  World Gold Medal)  at $1.5M USD.

If he said USD then USD it is :)....I would imagine some of that 1.5 is probably sentimental value of the goldmedal, not to mention lets say it was on ebay or up for auction it'd go for a heck of alot more than what the actual cost of the material and labor was. That's what happens when an item is owned by a celebrity.

I'll agree with you on this, andreaj, LOL. However, it's difficult to pin down an appropriate monetary value for a gold medal: emotional attachments don't easily convert into dollar amounts. I wonder if it was insured, and if Alexei used the insured amount as the basis for his declaration of the medal's worth. In that case I could understand putting a million or slightly more dollars on it. I dunno....lol...do Russians insure valuable possessions the way people in other countries do? That's something I've never asked any of my Russian correspondants, LOL.

If there's any chance, at all, that Alexei will ever get that medal back I wonder the thieves will offer to return it for a ransom. This is assuming they can't easily find somewhere to fence it. Stranger things have happened, LOL.

I hope I am wrong Mary but after having read several Russian articles it seems that there was no insurance coverage.  Hopefully what I read was tabloid conjecture only.

And another article about the theft -
