It's been a long three weeks in the hospital - to make a long story short, I decided to become more environmentally friendly and started bicycling to work.....I was crossing at a quiet intersection on a green light and young lady on her cell phone didn't realize her light was red at the intersection and well...thank God I was a little faster - she caught my rear tire...but, here I sit with a broken ankle, torn knee ligaments and still a headache from the concussion....I think I'm beginning to support a ban on cell phone use when driving - some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time never mind operate a 3,000 lb. vehicle!

Good to be back though!  This site was in good hands while I was out of commission - bless you!

Surprised  Dear God!!!! Karenna ((((((((((((((many huge hugs)))))))))))))))

I sooooo glad you are on the mend. Wow! Three weeks in a hopital is awful enough without the aspects of the traffic injury, and I know exactly what you mean about having a law again cell phone use while driving. The vast majoriy of drivers cannot talk on a cell phone and pay attention to where they're going at the same time, let alone operate the vehicle. I know I certainly can't, LOL. While we, women, are supposed to be able to multi-task quite well, that's one activity where we don't fair as well.

Hi Mary!!!!
It's so good to be home again and see your post!   I guess I got my fondest wish, that I would be able to spend more time on this board.  It must be true - be careful what you wish for!  I  am having  recurrent dreams about the accident unfortunately - instead of frightening they are becoming a little more silly...last night I dreamt that a car was not coming toward me but a large red blackberry!  maybe it's the medication.....

Oh dear Kareena, so sorry to hear about your accident.  The mind does play strange tricks 'a large red blackberry' - of course a blackberry is a kind of phone as well!

I hope you are on the mend and able to spend a little time reading up on Alexei.  I've been off work myself ill lately (nothing as serious as you have suffered) and found cruising the web looking for a certain good looking Russian ice skater did ease things a little.Laughing

In Britain we have had the cell phone whilst driving ban in place for a while now.  You can use it but it has to be via a handsfree set/bluetooth type thing.

Of course it is difficult to enforce but I do think at least having it makes people think about the reasons for it.  Some people's driving is bad enough without trying to drive one handed.

Just for you here are a couple of recent Alexei photo's from Germany

....it never fails to amaze me how two good pictures of Alexei make me feel ten times better than any medication seems to...a big hug and thank you so much sharon!  I hope you get better too...That is the smart thing to do under the circumstances, ie. ban the use of cell phones while driving. Clearly some people can multitask whereas others are not able to - it's the ones that can't that scare me and sent me "a** over tea-kettle" as my friend from  Manchester  just told me....

Karenna ( I kept telling the nurses in the hospital - "No, no just find a picture of Alexei Yagudin for me to look at  -  much more soothing than  a silly painkiller!").

I saved this thread for last.  I was so aghast at what I read here, I did not feel capable of posting a reply.  Oh Karenna, I'm so sorry for what you have been through!

I think I have burned off all my fuel and caffeine already on other threads; I still feel devoid of adequate words.  It is so good to have you back!

Sharon has done a great job of bringing news to the board (thank you again, Sharon), but we have missed your glowing presence.  I'm so glad that Sharon posted that photo of Alexei in the aqua tee shirt with the mischievous grin.  That's a picker-upper if ever there was one!  *****HUGGGGGGGG*****

HI!!!! Lina!!!!
I'm so glad to finally be home again!  I missed everyone so much and felt terrible that I didn't get back to the board sooner but it was in fabulous hands - of this there is little doubt.  Again - I can't help saying "Bless all of you!"

I have a question to ask though - Does anyone know how to reduce the itch that you can't get at underneath a cast? I'd give anything to get at it!

I'm wondering if foot powder would help.  I saw some commercial for a powder that cuts down itching; I think it was called "Gold Bond", but I'm not sure.  There's always talcum powder or maybe cornstarch.  I know cornstarch works on "prickly heat" in the summer.  It might be worth a try.

Karenna....The itching under the cast is caused by trapped moisture from your skin. The secret to reducing it or eliminating it is to v
