" A well-known figure skater will play the role of Vladimir Putin in the play "The President's Vacation", whose premier will take place on the scene of the theater of stage on July 2. 2008. - We took a long time to select an actor for the main role, and after long disputes we stopped at the candidature of Yagudin, says the producer of play Aleksei Khrapovitsky. Indeed in the theatrical setting it is not required a formal resemblance - the most conditional of the skills are not the same as in the cinema. That Yagudin is not an actor, but an athlete, this may be considered as good. Indeed if we consider the main hero of our play, his disposition is very much of the sporting quality. And, by the way, Alexei Yagudin has an incredible artistic ability. He approached our project with interest and immediately accepted the work on this first role in the theater. Now he studies the lessons of actor's craftsmanship. He studies the role and, as soon as he will return from the tours, he will commence the rehearsals. Alexei understands, that the sport is not eternal, and he searches for that which will fill his life after withdrawal from sport. I think, the role of Putin - this the best springboard for the beginning actor.
The premier of play takes place on July 2. True, producers, until now, were not completely safistifed with the name of the play. Since the acting President was Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin at the time the play was written the title was appropriate. Now, obviously, for director it is necessary to change name, for example to "the vacations of the Head of Government". It is the first play about Putin, which is accepted for the setting immediately in three theaters of the country, came into being on the eve of Vladimir Vladimirovich's 55- anniversary. - In the Vladivostok youth theater already rehearsals are already taking place. In July the premier of play takes place in a Moscow theater. The events of the play take place on the Siberian taiga within a new settlement where Vladimir Putin in the company of the well-known American writer (who is writing a book about the President of Russia) occurs the will of fate. The engine of presidential helicopter falters during the working circling of taiga territories, and it is forced to land on the Siberian taiga. The President is torn from the entire world and for several weeks lives among the taiga inhabitants. We wanted to show Putin among the simple people - a man, who thrown into an extreme situation does not lose a feeling of composure and with characteristic determination and perception withstood all tests. The subject of play is developed unconstrainedly and gaily, and everything concludes well. At the end of the two hour play the President flies away, but ihe promises to return. In order to accurately transmit unique coloring and picturesqueness of the speech of Putin, we studied for an entire year all the newspapers and periodicals we could with the speeches of President Putin and verbatim included in the text of play Putin expressions - so that there there is no ad-libbing. The authors of play are assured that the stage life of Vladimir Putin is doomed to a long life. - Plays about Putin will go on for decades, the constitution does not take precidence and by no means can the presidential period be limited within this context."

Oooh Mary, your comment did make me laugh!!
I do think there is a resemblence insomuch as the shape of the face, nose, shape of the mouth, even eye-brows. Alexei was asked in one of the interviews and saids he didn't see any resemblance though. What amazes me is that despite what, when you look at the above, seem like similarities, Alexei is very handsome, not a comment I have heard about Putin, even though he keeps himself fit!
The play does not say it about Putin just 'the president' hence Alexei and the director saying a physical resemblence is not necessary. I don't know if the other guy who is sharing the role with Alexei looks similar?
I hope its a good play and look forward to reading the reviews.

Hmmm......Mary, you're right - PUtin does have a sort of expression of "uncertainty" perhaps? Without a doubt - I am looking forward to the debut of this play - I'd give anything to be sitting in the audience when Alexei "strides the boards"! I'd even volunteer to be in the play since I'm already a "cast" member...... Karenna

I'd love to be in that theatrical audience, too lol. I think Alexei definitely does have acting ability. That opinion is not only based on what I've seen myself; Tatyana Anatolyevna was said to have observed his natural acting ability after she began working with him, and was said to have borne that in mind when designing programs for him. I think that one of the things that makes him so effective on the ice, is the strength of his interpretative ability. He can make the audience *feel* the program.
I love the idea of his studying acting and trying it out; I think it's a good move for exploring his future options. I hope the play is a big success!
Something else I noticed a long time ago.....theatre is very different from film; I remember that a particularly fine film actor was boring in the theatre, while another actor was exciting onstage. I finally came to the conclusion that it had a lot to do with body language. In the theatre, in the seats in the back, facial expressions can get lost, but body language never gets lost. Since Alexei has been using body language effectively for a long time, I think the theatrical stage would not be a big leap for him.

another play related piece. Watch the video clip towards the end Alexei does push ups on a table and does are cartwheel off it. It big felt boots. Probably bets not to ask why!!  The piece says he hurt his foot doh, silly boy!  . Nothing serious. Boys will be boys I guess. http://life.ru/video/3624/ps. he's wearing lovely tight black pants...why do I notice these things  It also says he is following the director's instructions and is doing very well. A born actor me thinks.

The premier was last night (2nd July) but they used the other actor instead. It seems Alexei was very nervous. .....and he has a new lady friend, a brunette this time (click on the second image)...love the pink bag he's carrying as well, he's got it slung over his shoulder in an atempt to make Barbie pink look macho....   http://www.life.ru/video/3946

Please forgive me everyone....this has been a very long two weeks away from home...but I am so very, very greatful that you are still here....sharon, lina, andrea, mary C....THANK YOU! I have been 300 miles north of Winnipeg helping the effort to find my friend Jennifer Catcheway who has been missing since June 20th. Jennifer is 18 and from the Dakota Tipi First Nations Reserve but was last seen near Gypsumville. The RCMP have been searching for her in heavy forest near Gypsumville but have not had success in locating her. I had to come home to return to work tomorrow but my thoughts and prayers are with Jennifer and her family..... "Return home safely daughter and friend".
