European Figure Skating Championships
Zagreb (CRO) Jan 21-27

Ok..i know it's a litlle to early for open a thread for EC..but..a week goes fast:P

From what i heard Domnina/Shabalin have some problems(Maxim had a surgery) and is not sure if them will be there..but i hope he will feel well to participate.

Domnina/Shabalin are the only russians who can bring a golden medal..because i can not believe that Voronov or Lutai could win the title, as well at pairs or ladies.

Thanks, Adelina :) .  It's never too early to open a thread for Euros ;) .

I have looked over my notes, and I think that Khokhlova/Novitski have a good chance at the silver, although probably Delobel/Schoenfelder will get the gold.  Their scores were so close at TEB that an upset could happen at Euros.  (Delobel/Schoenfelder had 194.14 and Khokhlova/Novitski had 191.01 at TEB).  At NHK, they were further apart, though; D/S had 197.54 and K/N had 186.96; so on any given day, it is not predictable for sure.    Pechalat and Bourzat should do well; they had 181.84 at Skate America, and 184.38 at Cup of Russia, so I don't expect them to get the gold at Euros, but I do expect them to be on the podium.

I am hoping that Maksim Shabalin will have complete recovery from his knee surgery very quickly.  I think that he should make sure to get enough rest, and not push the injury, so I would be very content with  Domnina/Shabalin skipping Euros, and  just thinking ahead and working toward  Worlds.

I have been ill lately, so I never did try to post  the outcome of Russian Nationals; I am  sorry about that.    I am still not at my best lol, so I hope there are no errors in the figures I just presented.

Lina :)

Oh my gosh! Europeans already!  So glad you started the link to the event Adelina. And Lina - get well soon.....please.

I've found the link to the official European Figure Skating Championships 2008 -

http://www.euroskate2008.com/

It looks as though Domnina/Shablin are still listed as Ice Dance participants....it just seems unlikely that they would be able to compete but perhaps I am wrong.

Thank you, Karenna :).  I did see something online about it being possible they will compete at Euros, even though Maxim Shabalin has been recovering from a second knee surgery.  It would not shock me if they do compete; I would attribute that to patriotic stoicism.  I read that the second knee got in trouble because of the other knee being favored, so Maxim has a history of "biting the bullet" and  doing his best, which was good enough to win the Grand Prix Final.

A second knee surgery for Maxim?! Well - I know who I will be cheering for if he is able to compete after such medical treatment.  Russian figure skaters  = resiliency and determiniation!
