The music grows on me after a few plays - I have this image in my mind of a burnt out businessman with very few morals sitting behind his desk with packs of cigarettes and a full ashtray -

WOW a new program from Alexei!!!

when did he find time to do that?!

He's been doing 2 number's in the Russian shows - overcome and shout.  I assumed those were the one's he had chosen for the tours.

Both glad and sad that he is only doing 1 programme - better for his health I know.

can't wait for the Youtube video's of this new program.

It really makes me wonder Sharon - where does he find the time?  Now I understand why 4 or 5 hours a night of sleep was part of his schedule....

Yes but you can't keep going on only 4-5 hours sleep.  He should be getting at least 7-8 hours.

Had a look on Youtube - no Alexei posts yet...what is taking people so long!!!  However, I did discover that Shen and Zsao (I've probably spelt that incorrectly) skated to this music in 2002 Hallmark competition.

Thanks Sharon! At least we get to see Zhen and Shao skating to the music so far.  I did a little more research and apparently the song was recorded in 1970 by Oscar Benton and was part of the music for the 1999 movie "La Buche" (The Yule Log")....I may have  to rent this....yikes! speaking of time - I have to be at the rink in a few minutes!

Gotta go!

Wow!  Zowie!

Got to thank you again, Sharon!  Now this is a really unusual piece of music!  It's a cross between classic American blues and a rich Russian component, subtly introduced instrumentally, and then vocally celebrated.  I've never heard anything like it before, because of the amazing combination of traditions, a very successful combination!  I can really picture Alexei using this music, and I cannot wait to see him doing it!  It has put a smile on my face, and I found myself starting to sing along with it lololol

(Had to wait to post this because of a phone call ;) )

Thanks, Karenna, for posting the YouTube link for this! It is wonderful even though it isn't filled with great jumps. The lack of jumps should be a lot easier on his hip which is what he needs right now. Still, the program is a hands-down winner just with Alexei's execution of each element and all the little detail gestures he puts into this performance to reach the hearts of his audience.

Thanks, Sharon and Karenna :)

I nearly went crazy yesterday, when I tried to download the avi version--the little box informed me that it would take seven hours plus (and the number of hours seemed still to be increasing), so I gave up, totally frustrated.  I cannot stay online that long; it is just not possible.

Thank goodness for YouTube!  Yesterday, I tried a search there, trying three or four different titles, but no luck.  Today, I joyfully saw that a YouTube download of Alexei's "Bensonhurst Blues" was now available, and have downloaded it.  I was actually afraid that there would not be a YouTube version available; I should have had more faith!

7 hours??? Lina - the only thing I think I've done for 7 hours straight is sleep! And as long as we're both looking for those youtube videos sharon you can beat me to it anytime....
Mary - I totally agree with you.  I think we have an opportunity to really focus on the other elements which Alexei does so incredibly well rather than waiting for the jumps.  I sometimes think that the popularity of figure skating for the general public depends more upon the sensationalism of the quad, triple axle, etc.  I would very much like to see an appreciation build for many of the other elements which are difficult to perform but which get overlooked by the casual fan of figure skating

And here is a little video of Alexei playing soccer and presenting flowers to Miki Ando -

Thank you to all the sleuths here who find You Tube videos.

I enjoy Alexei's new program very much.  I like that he is using "thinking man" music and putting together programs that are both entertaining and thought provoking.  Well done.

Unfortunatley the Youtube link for the soccer and flowers clip is no longer available - it's been removed due to a copyright claim by TV Tokyo.

The one of the Bensonhurst Blues performance is still there.

Here are the media-saver files.  I've just downloaded them all - they took about a minute each which is very fast for this server.

Hi everyone!  Thanks so much for the links.  I really like the music; I like Blues.   Karenna, I agree with you about the public needing to appreciate more in skating than the magnificent jumps.  Alexei has such really beautiful artistry.

Adlelina and sharon - you two are such a blessing on this site!  Thank you for the "working"links to the 2008 Japan SOI videos with Alexei.  It seems that Japanese television takes a dim view (pardon the pun) of posting their clips for everyone to see without monetary recompense.

You're welcome Virago! I guess you and I are not "casual" skating fans - thank heaven!  I'm a fan of blues as well and quite frankly I really like the music Alexei has chosen for his new program.  He makes us think about every movement he performs and in what context these movements relate to Bensonhurst Blues.

Actually, I only plan to go to Osaka in the beginning, because I got a free airline ticket, but I ended up with Tokyo and Nagano, mainly because of my greedy, LOL.

More impression.

Osaka and Tokyo SOI.

It is very strange to watch SOI’s opening without Alexei, not mean to disrespect to the other skaters, I really like many of skaters in SOI, like Todd, Sato, John and Ina, Jennifer.

But Alexei is the only reason for me to travel oversea to see him again and again, beside, the best part of the group number for me (may be also for all his fans too) is to spot him and follow him all the way, LOL.

As I report before, I am not very fond of Bensonhurst Blues music in the beginning, and wonder how will he perform to this music, but when I actually witness his skating, waw! He is certainly the best showman! I really believe that he could just skating around the place and the girls will still feel dazzle, LOL, the new program is really good too, he is the all around package, every move is so smooth, so nature, he doesn’t have to “act” to be sexy, gorgeous, grace, but we could “feel” all of them in his every single move.

He doesn’t have to “invite” or “force” people to “get in” with him, his nature skating come from his personality, so when he is there, he is like a magnet, people just automatically fall into his world.

I think that is the reason that he could always impress people.

I like his new program, I think he may be the only one who could combine funny, cute and gorgeous at the same time, LOL, and, may be this is not “so” important, but his beauty may also add some “killing” too, LOL.

I really appreciate his long hair now, what a screen when he skated on ice with that flying hair! Thank you! LOL.

Everyone love his new program after watch his skating, and we feel very happy that it is very well accept. He really light up the arena and because this program equally “take care” of all the 4 direction, so he make many many of people very very happy! LOL.

Also, he is the few of the skater to be able keep his same level in the whole tour, some of the skaters had the up and little down days, but Alexei is always keep steady. This is really amazing consider how crazy busy he was in Russian before Japan tour.

The audience in Osaka is very steady and polite, center part is always very full.

In Tokyo, the first show is in Friday, the audience is not too many, so I feel worry, but the next 2 shows are in weekend, the arena are almost full!, and the audience in last Tokyo show is the most enthusiasm! They clap and cheer very loud, almost like the NA and Russian show, the reaction he got is amazing. I am full of happiness and pride for him.

Of course the plus lucky for us is to get his hand shake in the last show finally, he make us so surprised and excited, when he came near, every one spread out their arm try to get the chance, so it is kind of a “group hand shake”, LOL, because so many people touch his hand at the same moment, and everyone is like “Waw, I touched him!”, LOL, Thanks Alexei again, you really make all the ladies unforgettable happy!

Thank you so much for your wonderful report, AY!  I agree with everything Karenna said about the reports you write; it is always such a pleasure to read them.  Please forgive me for not having thanked you last time; I meant to, but sometimes I have too many things to do, and barely have time to read, much less reply.  I just want you to know how much pleasure your reports always give me.
