Re :   New article-nice picture

Thanks, Andrea and Sharon :)

I think it can be very hard  for skaters who tour to make marriage work.  Scott Hamilton talked publicly  about how he had tried to have a serious romantic  relationship  while still touring, and it just did not last.  Ultimately, he was able to settle down after he had stopped touring; I think he was about 40 at the time.  Married skaters can manage to fit in occasional shows, but  working in  real tours  is not very compatible with  traditional family life, if there are children in the family.  We see what happened to Yevgeny  Plyushchenko's  marriage.  Sometimes it is  better to wait until one can stay  home for long periods of time.  That method seems to have worked well for both Scott Hamilton and Kurt Browning.  I think Kurt gave up touring so that he could be home with his family.

Re :   New article-nice picture

thankyou Sharon, that translation is a bit more clear.

I have to say  having read this clearer version of the interview  that I think some of the interviewers questions,  diving    into things that could be potentialy  uncomfortable for him to talk about,it was a bit  too invasive and not in good taste IMO.

However on the upside, atleast it was accompanied by a good photograph.:)

Re :   New article-nice picture

sometimes the translations are bizarre..I've even had a few that were a bit rude!!

There is quite a good 'proper' translation site.  It has the interview you posted.  This link should take you to the home page.  If not, there is a simple link on the page called 'Home'.

Re :   New article-nice picture

Well, I think with the whole marriage/kids thing, right now he travels so much that ,it'd be hard  to have a wife/  family and not be there all the time.

and 28 is not old at all...I'm 27 and I honestly don't consider myself old lol.

With the translation things, sometimes they don't translate all the words so you are left with gaps in a sentence.

Re :   Will Alexei and Yevgeny Skate as a Pair in Seoul?

I have just read some very moving reviews at the AYDG about the show in Korea at

http://alexeidiscussiongroup.yuku.com/topic/4846?page=7

Show Ching always writes reports that make great reading, but I think this may be her most beautifully expressive report ever.  The page  has a wealth of reports from QingMei,  Show Ching, Jinny, and Midori.  I was thrilled to read that Alexei did 3 triple toe jumps beautifully and that his sitspins were of  the highest  quality (see Jinny's post for that).

Re :   New article-nice picture

Thanks for this Andrea.  I had seen it but hadn't had time to read it properly.  As you say, the free-translator's are the best or easiest to read.

Its good to hear his Mum has someone in her life.

Alexei has certainly changed his stance on marriage/kids since returning to Russia.  I think I did read somewhere him saying he was lonely/missed family  life when he was based  in the US, hence his talk of wanting a wife.  He seems very comfortable in his surroundings and with himself.  Many Russian's do marry early but I think this is down to living circumstances where it is difficult for most single people to affords their own places.  28 is no age at all!

Here's a new interview,nice picture.

http://www.zhizn.ru/article/culture/12165/

to paraphrase(the free translators don't do the best job)

he's 28 but the number doesn't bother him. He's back on the market.Has dated some of the most beautiful girls on the planet.Asked him about his early childhood, how he came to skate.About his parents divorce, does he remember his dad.He said no basically. That his Dad moved to Germany, and that he called him after the Olympics but never called again.Says his Mom never remarried but has someone in her life and he is fine with him.
Asked him about his breakup, why he never marries the girls...he said he is too stubborn in relationships. He does not want kids right now and does not want to get married. He likes his freedom. He likes to give gifts to his "girls" bought various things for the various ones, some liked cards, some dinner, some stuffed animals...He's had his heart broken before. And as far as his recent ex,he says  they won't be getting back together.

Re :   Will Alexei and Yevgeny Skate as a Pair in Seoul?

Have managed to find quite a few pictures now of the Super Match event.

Alexei did Overcome and a new routine.  The outfit is not the most stylish - Nike loose muscle top and long-baggy shorts.  Mind you, it does mean lots of bulging Alexei mucles and his nice legs on show, so I'm not complaining.

Sasha Cohen is involved in it - he hugs her and she pushes him away, whereby he ends up on the floor.  If Alexei hugged me like that I'd hug back.  In fact, I'd cling on like a barnacle and they'd have trouble prizing me off him

I've uploaded the photo's.  Here's a taster.

the rest are at:

hope you enjoy them.  can't wait for the video's

Re :   Will Alexei and Yevgeny Skate as a Pair in Seoul?

Thanks to Jinny at the AYDG, we have a photo of Alexei of his arrival in Seoul, S. Korea for the Super Match show:

http://news.naver.com/main/read.nhn?mode=LSD&mid=sec&sid1=001&oid=003&aid=0002195017

The time zone in Korea puts it 13 hours ahead of current U.S. Eastern Time.  Here's the URL for the World Clock again:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/full.html

Just subtract your time from the time in Seoul, and you get your own time difference.  Time differences vary at different times of year, because some places use Daylight Savings Time, and some don't, so the World Clock is the fast and easy way to check.

Ah, Jet lag!  I don't know how he stands it. lol  But I think that usually, it's worse after the return flight.

The Super Match takes place on July 19th and 10th, and it's already  almost 11:30 p.m.  on July 17 in Seoul, so it won't be long.  At least Alexei will have a day to get ready.

Re :   Will Alexei and Yevgeny Skate as a Pair in Seoul?

From the AYDG, here's a new  Korean  article on the upcoming show, in English:

http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news/sports/2008/07/136_27575.html

The article mentions that the fire at Mokdong Ice Rink caused the show to be cancelled last year; it seems like just yesterday that we were looking at photos of Alexei and Yevgeny when they had  exited the building safely.

Re :   OTHER SPORTS

I love both the guys for different reasons.  However, I was hoping Rafa would pull it off.  He has become Roger's Nemesis.    Wimbledon has a posh ball for the champions on the Sunday evening.  Its usually at the Savoy but thyey are closed for a £100million reburbishment!  It was at the Intercontinental this year.  Venus must have some killer heels on to make Rafa look small.  They are both 6'1" tall but she seems so much taller than him!    Anyway he scrubs up well.

The summer's results will make for an interesting autumn schedule. The pressure will really be on Roger now to do well at the US Open.  I think they are both scheduled for the Olympics as well.

Re :   Will Alexei and Yevgeny Skate as a Pair in Seoul?

perhaps Alexei should take his Gladiator knives to protect himself from another onslaught from Plushy's girlfriend.  She had a right go at him at the MUZ-TV awards.  Apparantly her ranting was rather embarrassing as she did it on stage with a microphone in her hand during one of the presentations.  There is a Youtube clip but as it's in Russian I don't know what she said.  From what I can gather Alexei just ignored it - ever the diplomat.

Mind you if her or Yevgeny start hassling he could  try the judo moves he learnt for the play.  Or he could try the direct approach  or he could just give a quick   when no one was looking - of course I only joke.  I know Alexei would never resort to violence.

I'm sure they will both be professional about it.  I've always had the feeling (OK I know I'm biased) that any jelousy or anomosity came from Yevgeny towards Alexei and not the other way around.

It will be interesting to see what comes of the event.

Alexei is scheduled to do the Super Match 2008 in S. Korea, according to the AYDG.  A recent post there by Jinny says that Alexei and Yevgeny will skate *together* like a pair team (in a backup role).

The board was not accessible for a while yesterday; glad to see it back!  AYChing has posted a fun review of the play now, at:

It sounds like Alexei really went over well with the audience!  And I love the photos at the URLs Laurie posted.  Nice suit! ;)
